The Brightness Illustration Awards is delighted to announce the 40 illustrations that have been selected for the BIA 2022! Established in 2019, the Awards celebrate excellence in four categories of contemporary practice: Children’s book art, Editorial illustration, Unpublished illustration, and Teenagers and adults book art.

In July 2021, we opened our call to amateur and professional artists from any country. The aim is to give artists the ultimate platform to develop their passion and career in the illustration sector. An incredible 2000+ entries were submitted by illustrators from 80 countries for this year’s awards. This was followed by a competitive judging process to find the 40 longlisted projects, from which the final shortlist of 12 illustrations has been selected.

Here are the Professional Award winners chosen by the jury for each category, including Children’s book art, Editorial illustration, and Unpublished and Teenage book art. This year’s judging panel included international professional illustrators such as Joanna Concejo, Paul Garland, Sonja Danowski, Kieren Phelps, Marco Palena, and Narjes Mohammadi.

Brightness Award 2022 Prizes

The Brightness competition is a non-profit event open to both amateur and professional artists from any country. The aim is to give artists the ultimate platform to develop their passion and career in the illustration sector. Finalists will benefit from exhibiting, and showcasing their work to art critics and art directors. Our aim at Brightness Magazine is to promote your art, and not to own it. You will continue to own all rights to your work. We are simply looking for you to grant us the rights to feature your art and promote you as an artist. Think of this as an exciting collaboration with other artists and a great way of creating a global cooperative movement in the illustration industry.
