ICON is an inclusive gathering of illustrators, designers, educators, representatives, and art buyers exploring illustration today. Since 1999, ICON has produced conferences in Santa Fe, Philadelphia, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Providence, Portland, Austin, and Detroit. ICON is committed to providing a diverse forum for an ongoing dialogue that serves the illustration, design, publishing, advertising, and academic communities.

ICON comes to Kansas City smack dab “in the middle” of the USA, where creativity meets the heartland, and inspiration was built right in.

NEW 2022 CONFERENCE DATES:

ICON The Illustration Conference, the 11th, RESCHEDULED national, biennial conference will take place June 29 – July 2, 2022 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Up to 100 speakers will take to the stage and classrooms over four days at the beautiful and historic Folly Theater – just steps from the Kansas City Marriott Hotel Downtown – and on the campus of the Kansas City Art Institute, one of our local conference partners.

We’re keeping a serious eye on the pandemic. While there are still unknowns in regards to variants, there has been much progress with vaccines, boosters and upcoming medications. With that in mind, at this time attendees will be required to show proof of full vaccination and masks covering nose and mouth will be worn at all times. We’ll post more updates as information becomes available. Thank you for your cooperation.

• The Education Symposium/Papers Presentations at KCAI, Wed-Thur.

• All Main Stage Presentations at The Folly Theater, Thur-Sat.

• Five Events: Educators Cocktail Party at KCAI on Wed. / Roadshow/Opening Party at the Marriott Hotel on Thurs. / Happy Hour at the Folly Theater on Fri. / Gallery Show TBD on Fri. / and our Closing Night Party at The Truman on Sat.

NOTE: Workshops and Motion Commotion screening are sold a la carte. Pre-registration will open in April 2022.

We were pleased to again offer our tiered pricing plan when we initially opened sales in 2019. Many levels sold out fast, but we still have great discounts available.

Here’s how it works: A limited number of tickets at various discount levels will be available, starting with our “Early Bird” ticket. As a block of tickets sells out, a new block at a higher price will be offered.

Seating is limited and tickets will go fast, so keep an eye on the count down so you don’t miss out on the best available price.

The faster you register for the conference, the more you’ll save.

STUDENT DISCOUNT

30 tickets will be made available at $485 for full-time, undergrad and graduate students. Student ID required at check in. Student Registration will open when the Early Bird rate sells out.

2020 TICKETS

If you held on to your previously purchased ticket for the 2020 cancelled conference you’re all set to go. There’s no additional registration required, unless you’d like to register later for a la carte Workshops. We’ll send an email to you confirming your ticket.

CANCELLED 2020 TICKETS

If you needed to cancel your 2020 conference ticket and requested a refund, your ticket is waiting for you to re-purchase anytime. We hope you can come back and will send you a special link to get your ticket at the original price paid.

FEES

Registration service and processing fees are extra as applied by Eventbrite. For US transactions, service fees are 2.5%+$0.99; processing is 3%. See Eventbrite for other supported currencies and information. ICON appreciates your support and understanding.

REFUND POLICY



We’re sorry, but no refunds are available at anytime. Exceptions will be considered only for medical emergencies. As a not-for-profit, volunteer organization, all revenues collected go straight to making advance payments to the venues and covering all operating costs. However, all tickets are transferable, so if you’re unable to come, you may sell your ticket to a friend. Please contact us with the name, address and email of the person purchasing your ticket so we can update our records. We appreciate your commitment to and support of ICON.

Due to increased conference attendance, no tickets for individual main stage sessions or “day rate” tickets will be available.

HOTEL ROOM GROUP DISCOUNT RESERVATIONS

The KANSAS CITY MARRIOTT DOWNTOWN is offering a group discount rate of $179.00 (dbl occ.) per night a few days before and after the conference, so come early, or stick around to check out KANSAS CITY. Rooms are ready, but will go fast, so make your reservation soon. A special link to reserve your room at the group discount rate will be sent to you by email with your conference registration confirmation.

EXTRA PROGRAMMING for ATTENDEES

Look for additional information and applications to come after you register for the conference for the following:

• Workshops at KCAI (Wednesday – Thursday)

Workshops are extra and sold à la carte: they are only available to pre-registered conference attendees. Schedule with instructors and registration will open in April 2022. A special link will be provided to all registered attendees.

• Roadshow Exhibiting Artists (Thursday)

Our high-energy, curated event and marketplace showcases the work and wares of more than 60 exhibiting illustrators and artisans as part of the Opening Party on Thursday evening, just after our Opening Ceremonies and Keynote on the Main Stage. If you’re interested in being a Roadshow exhibitor, look for our announcement and application soon. Artist’s application will close in February 2022.

• Education Symposium (Wednesday – Thursday)

Papers application closed. Attendees welcome to hear all selected Paper Presenters!

• Motion Commotion (Wednesday)

Animation festival and screening of attendees work. Submission required.

• Kaleidoscope

Selected attendees present on the Main Stage, Pecha Kucha style. Submissions required.

• Gallery Show

Attendees invited to submit work for exhibition in Kansas City gallery space TBD.
